Washington is one of the few places where you can wake up surrounded by mountain peaks, wander through an old-growth forest in the afternoon, and end your day watching the sun disappear behind the Pacific Ocean.
And, if you ask us, what a cool way to get married.
It’s one of the reasons we’re so obsessed with helping couples elope here. Washington doesn’t make you choose just one kind of adventure. You can chase those big mountain views that make you stop and stare, slow down beneath towering trees, and celebrate the day with your feet in the sand along the coast.
If you’re looking for the best places to elope in Washington, there are so many incredible options. But before we dive into the list, one thing we always tell our couples is that you don’t have to choose the “most famous” location just because you’ve seen it on Instagram. The best Washington elopement location is the one that matches the kind of experience you want to have together.
Maybe that’s hiking to a mountain overlook with your favorite person and taking in the view in complete silence. Maybe it’s saying your vows under a canopy of trees before chasing waterfalls and grabbing pizza afterward. Or maybe it’s a slow morning by the lake followed by a sunset beach adventure. There is no wrong way to plan your adventure.
We’re based around Mount Rainier, where we spend a huge amount of our time exploring, photographing, and helping couples plan intentional elopement days. But we’re also explorers and have adventured all over this beautiful state.
So whether you’re dreaming of mountain views, wild coastlines, quiet forests, or a little bit of everything, we’re sharing some of our favorite Washington elopement locations to help you start planning your adventure.

Before we share specific trails and places to elope in Washington, here are a few of our favorite regions.
Mount Rainier National Park The place that made us fall in love with Washington mountains. Mount Rainier is iconic for a reason. Here, you’ll find huge alpine views, wildflower-filled meadows, waterfalls, and mountain trails that make you realize just how grand nature truly is. This is our home base and one of our favorite places to help couples plan their Washington elopement day.
Olympic National Park Olympic is basically the “choose your own adventure” of Washington. One moment you can be walking through an ancient rainforest, and the next you’re standing on a rugged coastline watching waves crash against sea stacks. If you want the most variety in your landscape, this is the area to choose.
Mount Baker & North Cascades If dramatic mountain scenery is what you’re chasing, this area is hard to beat. The North Cascade peaks are massive, the alpine lakes are crystal clear, and there are plenty of options ranging from easy-access viewpoints to bigger adventures, so no matter your group size or adventure level, there is something here for you.
Columbia River Gorge & Southern Washington If waterfalls are the thing you’re obsessed with, this is where we’d start looking. The gorge is full of lush forests, rushing waterfalls, and unique landscapes that feel completely different from the alpine areas of Washington State.
The views along Skyline Trail are HUGE. You’re surrounded by alpine meadows, wildflowers in the summer, and some of the best views of Mount Rainier you can find.
The best part about this location is that you don’t necessarily have to hike the entire trail to have an incredible experience. Depending on what kind of day you’re planning, we can help you choose the route and distance that makes the most sense for you.

If you love the idea of a mountain adventure, but want something a little less known, Plummer Peak is one of our favorite places to elope in Washington state.
It offers incredible alpine scenery while feeling a little more tucked away than some of Rainier’s most famous viewpoints. Eloping here gives you a slightly more private experience, a little bit of a mountain scramble, and the feeling of truly experiencing the mountain instead of just visiting it.

Mount Rainier isn’t just about mountain views and Twin Firs Loop Trail is proof of that. This short forest walk is lined with towering Douglas firs and lush greenery, making it a great place to add a totally different landscape to your elopement day.
One of the reasons we love recommending Twin Firs is how much variety it offers in such a short distance. The lush greenery, changing light through the trees, and easy access make it a great place to slow down for a while before heading off to another part of the park. It’s also one of the few forest locations around Rainier that’s beautiful almost any time of year.

Pair Twin Firs with Paradise, Myrtle Falls, or Reflection Lakes for an elopement day that includes both Mount Rainier’s forests and iconic mountain views.

The Hoh Rainforest almost feels like stepping into a fairytale. Towering trees covered in moss and ferns line the trail, and there is a sense of quietness that you can only get in an old-growth forest.
It’s a great option for couples who want a more intimate, grounded experience for their elopement ceremony. Instead of chasing a viewpoint, you’re slowing down and noticing all the little moments along the way.

Pair the Hoh Rainforest with Ruby Beach, Lake Crescent, or nearby waterfalls for a full Olympic experience.
*Pro Tip: While Hoh Rainforest is the Washington forest location most couples have heard of, it’s not the only way to experience Olympic’s forests. Depending on your timeline, crowds, and the rest of your adventure, we may recommend other nearby forest areas like Ancient Grove or Maple Glade Trail. One of our favorite things about Olympic is that you can combine the forest with waterfalls, lakes, or the coast without spending your whole day in the car.

Ruby Beach is one of the most recognizable coastal elopement locations in Washington. Between the sea stacks, driftwood-covered shoreline, and those classic Pacific Northwest skies, this is a beach elopement location that is worth the drive.

Rialto Beach has a little more of that rugged, “end of the world” feeling.
The shoreline stretches out with driftwood, crashing waves, and sea stacks disappearing into the distance. It’s the kind of place where you might spend your afternoon exploring tide pools, wandering along the beach, and stopping every few minutes because the view changed again.
If your dream elopement sounds less like a traditional beach day and more like an adventure at the edge of Washington, Rialto is worth adding to your list.

Myrtle Falls is one of those classic Mount Rainier locations that shows off so many things people love about the park.
You get the waterfall, the wildflowers (if they’re in season), and that unmistakable view of Mount Rainier towering above the landscape. It’s the kind of place where you can stop for a moment, take it all in, and remember just how incredible this corner of Washington really is.
While Myrtle Falls is great on its own, we love it most as part of a bigger Rainier adventure. It pairs beautifully with nearby trails and viewpoints, giving you the chance to experience waterfalls, alpine meadows, and mountain views all in one single adventure.

Marymere Falls is one of our favorite Olympic Peninsula combinations because it feels like you’re getting two experiences in one. The trail takes you through towering trees and lush forest before opening up to the waterfall tucked away at the end.
For couples who want that classic Olympic feeling (think: mossy forest, fresh air, and a little bit of adventure) this is a great place to start.

If you want waterfalls to be the main character of your elopement day, Panther Creek Falls (and the Columbia River Gorge area overall) deserves a spot on your list.
The viewpoint looks down over a massive waterfall surrounded by lush forest, creating a completely different feel from the alpine and coastal areas of Washington.

Choose from any 90+ waterfalls in this area for a full day of exploring.
Lake Crescent is one of our favorite places to elope in Washington, and specifically, on the Olympic Peninsula.
What makes this lake so special is that you can be surrounded by mountains, old-growth forest, and crystal-clear blue water all in one place. It’s the kind of location where you can build a slower-paced day, maybe a morning by the lake, a forest walk, and a waterfall stop before heading somewhere else on the peninsula.
It’s also a great option for couples who want Olympic scenery without committing to a big hike.

Bagley Lakes is one of those places where the landscape feels way bigger than the effort it takes to get there.
With Mount Shuksan towering above the alpine lakes and the surrounding peaks reflected in the water, this area feels like a classic North Cascades adventure without needing to spend the entire day on the trail. It’s a beautiful spot for couples who want time to wander, explore, and actually soak in the scenery together.
We love Bagley Lakes because it creates space for those slower moments, like skipping rocks, taking in the views, and letting the mountain be the backdrop for a day that feels completely your own.

Pair Bagley Lakes with Artist Point or Huntoon Point for a full alpine day.

Choosing where to elope in Wasington state can feel overwhelming because… well, as you can see, Washington has a LOT of options.
But you don’t have to start with a trail name or a saved Instagram photo. Instead, start with the kind of experience you want to have together. And, above all else, remember that the place you say your vows should feel like YOU.
Maybe that’s standing on a rugged mountain overlook with your favorite person and nobody else around. Maybe it’s beside a quiet alpine lake, surrounded by towering trees, or watching the waves crash along the coast.
There isn’t one “perfect” elopement location. The best spot is the one that matches your vision, your season, your comfort level, and the way you actually want to spend your day.
When we help couples choose a location, we usually start with a few questions:
Do you picture mountain views, forests, beaches, waterfalls, lakes… or a combination of everything? Washington is one of our favorite places to help couples plan because you don’t always have to choose just one. Many locations can be combined into a full-day adventure that lets you experience multiple sides of the state.
Some couples want a sunrise hike, a summit view, and a full day outside. Others want incredible scenery without spending hours on the trail. Both are amazing options and the best adventure ultimately comes down to the one that feels right for you.
Washington changes a lot throughout the year. Summer brings wildflowers and open alpine trails, fall brings cooler weather and quieter moments, winter creates a completely different snowy landscape, and spring brings waterfalls and fresh greenery.
The season you choose can completely change the feeling of a location, so timing and location are two decisions that definitely go hand in hand.
Some of Washington’s most famous locations are popular for a reason, and truthfully, they don’t always make for the best ceremony location.
However, if you have your heart set on a popular location, this is where your timing can make a huge difference. Weekdays, off-season dates, and choosing the right location for your group size can completely change your experience.
Permits, accessibility, travel time, nearby accommodations, and guest count all play a role in choosing the right location.
Some national park locations have specific ceremony rules and group limits, while other areas may offer more flexibility. Having someone who knows the area can make the process so much easier because you don’t have to spend hours trying to piece everything together yourself.
Most of our couples don’t reach out to us already having everything figured out. They usually just know the feeling they’re chasing. Maybe they know they want mountains but don’t know which trail. Maybe they know they want a quiet forest but have no idea where to start. Or maybe they’ve saved 100 photos and now they’re somehow more confused than when they started…
And that’s totally ok, because as Washington elopement photographers, that’s exactly where we come in. We’ll help you take those ideas and turn them into a full-fledged elopement plan that feels exactly like the celebration you’re dreaming of.

Now that you have an idea of the best places to elope in Washington, here are a few common questions when it comes to eloping here.
Many popular Washington elopement locations do require permits, especially within national parks.
Mount Rainier and Olympic National Park both have their own rules around ceremony locations, group sizes, and permits. This is one of the reasons having a photographer who knows the area is so helpful. We’ll help you understand what’s allowed and make sure your plans line up with the location.
Absolutely! A lot of couples assume an elopement has to mean a sunrise hike and a backpack full of gear, but that’s not the case. Washington has plenty of beautiful locations that are accessible with little to no hiking. The best adventure is the one that feels right for you.
Privacy usually comes down more to timing than a single “secret spot.” For example, popular locations like Mount Rainier can be much quieter during weekdays and outside peak summer dates. This is why we typically recommend planning midweek elopements when possible, especially if having a more private experience is important to you.

The coolest part about planning an elopement in Washington is that you don’t have to start with the perfect location. You don’t need to know the exact trail, the perfect timeline, or have every detail figured out before reaching out. That’s where we come in.
We’ll help you take all those saved photos, half-formed ideas, and “we just know we want something outdoors” feelings and turn them into an actual plan.
Because the best elopement location isn’t always the one with the most views or the most Instagram posts. It’s the one that fits who you are, how you want to spend your day, and the kind of memories you want to walk away with.
Whether that means watching sunrise over Mount Rainier, wandering through an Olympic rainforest, chasing waterfalls, or building a day that combines a little bit of everything… we’re stoked to help you create it.
Reach out to us and tell us what you’re dreaming up, and let’s plan your Washington adventure together.
